The coastal path that links Mundesley with Bacton is said to be haunted by an invisible spectre known as the Lone Coastguard.

On stormy moonless nights at the stroke of midnight which is a popular time with Norfolk apparitions he sets out. As he walks this three mile stretch he screams and shouts at the top of his voice while the gales lash the north east coastline.

During lulls in the storm he is said to shriek with laughter. Local inhabitants of the area are careful to warn newcomers not to answer his cries. It is unknown who the spectre was in life or the reason for his vigil. Some locals say that he is called the Long Coastguard Man.
